the art of film soup + posing workshop

May 18th, 3-6pm @ Elysian Park, LOS ANGELES

so, what is film soup?

Film soup is a technique where one submerges their COMPLETED roll of 35mm film into some sort of potion with the desire to create an unknown and generally, colorful completed image. Think of it as the vintage filter. Below are examples of various film soup soaks.

the workshop

Join us for a DIY photo course under the trees in LA hills. I will be teaching some of the techniques that helped sculpt my style as a photographer. Class will be between 3-4 hours, depending.

*This is a great workshop for both the well-versed photographers and those new to the craft.

the course will cover ~

  • A quick overview of analog photography basics + how to successfully load and unload film

  • There will be portion of the class dedicated to practicing how to direct and pose models. Attendees will be broken into smaller groups and assigned to one of the incredible models that will be present

  • Feedback and instruction on posing and framing. Learning the balance of visioning an image beforehand and bringing it to life + determining the decisive moment.

  • Intentional in-camera light leak tutorial

  • In person film soup potions bar and how-to

what to bring ~

  • Those attending will need to bring their own 35mm ANALOG camera (trust me, you don’t want me to teach you how to use digital cameras)

  • 1-2 rolls of 35mm film

  • Please bring whatever sustenance you need to stay feeling energized

  • A mason jar with a lid (or 2 if you bring 2 rolls of film)

investment ~

$150/ person

will you be there?

I need a minimum of 7 people to sign up to bring the workshop to fruition. Once the 7 are confirmed I will send a venmo or zelle request for a $50 deposit to hold your spot, which I request you pay within 24 hours. Serious inquiries only please.
